Asymptopia Crossword Builder is written in JavaScript and runs in any modern web browser. It was designed for teachers to quickly produce well-designed, challenging activities.
The interface is intuitive and simple to use. To build a puzzle you need to supply a list of word:hint pairs. You can then click the "generate" button indefinately to generate an unlimited number of layouts.
Once the word layout is satisfactory you click the "generate puzzle" button to generate the blank puzzle, and finally click the "generate hints" button to generate the across-down hints lists.
The finished puzzle consists of three pages: The answer key, the empty puzzle and the hints. Each page resides on its own panel.
You switch between panels via the menubar across the top. You could use your browser's native print function to print each page. You can usually tell the browser not to print background colors in order to save ink.
