Pygments is a fast syntax highlighter written in Python with a special focus on details.
It can highlight source code in many supported languages: Python, PHP, HTML, Ruby etc.
Outputs arbitrarily-styled HTML or LaTeX, comes with many builtin styles.

- a wide range of common languages and markup formats is supported
- special attention is paid to details that increase highlighting quality
- support for new languages and formats are added easily; most languages use a simple regex-based lexing mechanism
