A distributed, decentralized data storage system, a modern NoSQL database inspired by Amazon's famous DynamoDB data storage service
Riak is written in Lisp and simplifies development by allowing developers the ability to quickly prototype, test, and deploy database-enabled applications.

Because it's a NoSQL database, don't expect any relational tables, but the classic key/value model that powers all other similar NoSQL systems.

Since it launched, it spread pretty quickly, being a good alternative to systems like Cassandra, Hadoop, CouchDB or MongoDB.
