Apache Sqoop is a must-have tool for every database administrator, letting them easily move data between the Hadoop NoSQL database to more classic database systems like PostgreSQL, MSSQL, MariaDB, or MySQL - a.k.a. relational databases.

Sqoop basically provides a low-level API for creating easy data conversion routines between the Hadoop MapReduce structures and the classical data formats supported in relational databases.

Developers can write their migration routines and once ready run them on the server.

The reverse operation is also supported, importing bulk data from relational databases into a Hadoop data store.

The Sqoop 1.4.x branch is for usage with Hadoop 1.x, while 1.99.x is for using with Hadoop 2.x.
