Joomla! is a very powerful CMS, very flexible through the hundreds of extensions developed for it.

It can be used for a variety of purposes, from corporate websites, to portals, and up to personal homepages.

The CMS works with most Web hosting services being a very popular package, and can also be used locally for testing with tools like WAMP, MAMP, and XAMPP.

It's feature base has become a de-facto standard for most CMS platforms, almost all content management systems providing an installation panel, administrative backend, blogging module, and WYSIWYG editing these days.

At one point in its development curve Joomla! as a CMS became very bloated thanks to the plethora of standard included features, but recent versions are now much slimmer and easier to customize thanks to a community-reviewed codebase.

Currently the CMS is making a comeback amongst developers, providing a much faster and efficient content editing experience compared to its previous versions.

While you can easily opt to switch to a more lightweight CMS platform, the Joomla experience is already well known amongst clients and most of them won't have a problem using sites developed on this technology.
