Yahoo Spent $80 Million on Aviate

Another unnamed source suggests a much smaller number

Earlier this week, Yahoo bought Aviate, an Android launcher that also provides contextually relevant information on smartphones. The company said nothing about the price tag set on this company, but sources are suggesting $80 million (€58.8 million).

According to TechCrunch, an insider with knowledge about the deal said that the Internet giant shelled out $80 million for the startup. While it’s unclear what the mix of cash and stock is, or if there are any type of conditions set for the group behind Aviate, it’s still an impressive sum.

The startup hasn’t been around too long and it barely managed to raise $1.8 million (€1.3 million) in funding less than a year ago, so the price tag is that much more noteworthy.

Other sources suggest that Yahoo only paid $20 million (€14.7 million) for Aviate, which, truthfully, sounds more like reality. However, TechCrunch stands by the original number as the contact who provided it is in a position to know the price.

Yahoo is keeping mum on the topic as it rarely reveals the sum it pays for its acquisitions.
