Twitter isn't exactly novel at this point, but it seems a big figure joining the site is still news. UK Prime Minister David Cameron is now an official Twitterite, regaling the world with his witty tweets from @David_Cameron.

His first words are perhaps a sign of things to come, or [i]not come, as the case may be.

"I'm starting Conference with this new Twitter feed about my role as Conservative Leader. I promise there won't be 'too many tweets...'," he said. Indeed there haven't, just four in the two days he's been on the site.

The "too many tweets..." reference is actually a quote from himself, when he offered his opinion on Twitter on public radio. "The trouble with Twitter, the instantness of it – too many twits might make a twat," he said at the time causing somewhat of a stir.

The office of the Prime Minister already tweets at @Number10gov, but this new one is Cameron's personal account.
