Yahoo is in the midst of a company-wide revamp, starting from how the homepage looks to how its mobile teams are organized. There's no word on how the latter is going, but the new homepage is getting ready for a wider rollout.
The new homepage is being tested with some users and, true to Yahoo's newest mantra, is optimized for mobile usage. A touch-friendly news slideshow takes center stage.
The tile layout is similar to Windows 8's look, but it's also reminiscent of essentially any modern thumbnail gallery, from Google+ Photos to Yahoo image search.
One thing to notice is that the ad space has been dialed down, you can thank new CEO Marissa Mayer for that. The top half of the homepage, at least, is almost ad free. Ads though may be integrated into the news tiles.
Word is that that the new homepage is very close to a wide rollout, maybe as soon as this week. In the meantime, enjoy the latest screenshots from users that are seeing the new homepage already.
