Spotify has been steadily growing and has announced today that it now has 10 million paying subscribers and 40 million active users across the globe.

This is a new milestone for the company that launched in 2008 and which has managed to expand to 56 countries in all corners of the world.

Since the service was all about sharing stats, Spotify has also revealed that there are some 1.5 billion playlists on the platform that have been put together over the past years. The number is growing quickly as some 5 million playlists are created every day now.

Rihanna is the most streamed female artist of all time, while Eminem takes the same place among male artists. With 235 million streams, Avicii’s “Wake Me Up” takes the lead as the most popular song on the platform.

The “prize” for the most loved artist on Spotify goes to David Guetta, who has over 5 million fans.

“We’ve had an amazing year, growing from 20 markets to 56 as people from around the world embrace streaming music. 10 million subscribers is an important milestone for both Spotify and the entire music industry. We’re widening our lead in the digital music space and will continue to focus on getting everyone in the world to listen to more music,” said Daniel Ek, CEO and founder of Spotify.
