Script of the Day: Bulk Plugin Installation

Install multiple WordPress plugins at the same time

Bulk Plugin Installation allows WordPress administrators to install more than one plugin at a time.

It works by modifying WordPress' plugin installation page, adding a big textarea at the top.

Admins can then enter here the plugin's name, as seen on the WordPress plugin index or the plugin's WordPress repository page URL.

For plugins not hosted on the WP index, admins can enter the plugin ZIP file URL. This also works with WP hosted plugins as well.

Just add one plugin per line, make a big list and hit “Install Now.” Bulk Plugin Installation will parse every textarea line and add each of the designated plugins to the installation queue.

The plugin is perfect for preset WP installations. Just keep a plugin list in a notepad somewhere and add it to the batch installer every time when deploying a new WP-powered site.

The “Bulk Plugin Installation” plugin is actually a modified version of “Improved Plugin Installation,” an older WordPress plugin with the same functionality, but on which development has stopped. Bulk Plugin Installation updated the plugin's code, allowing webmasters to run it in newer versions of WordPress.

The plugin is available on the WordPress plugin repository, making it easier to install via WP's built-in plugin installation tool.
