Pinterest users might be getting a cool new feature soon, namely GIFs alongside the regular pictures.

The feature has already become available to select users and they’ve been able to play GIFs within the platform, something that wasn’t available up until now, Mashable reports.

Uploading GIFs works in the same manner as pictures do. However, in the lower left corner of the image there appears a small “play” button.

Previously, there was no such button on the uploaded GIFs and unless you followed the image to its original source outside Pinterest, you only got a still image.

Pinterest has confirmed the new feature. “We're always working on ways to help people discover and save the things they love, which can include animated GIFs. We've heard from the community that they'd like the ability to post and view GIFs as Pins, so we're testing ways to make that happen,” a Pinterest spokesperson told Mashable.

I have been able to upload and play GIFs without issues and I can confirm that files are loaded in just a few seconds. They can be added to a board, given a description and assigned a source.
