HBO Plans to Do Something About Game of Thrones Piracy This Year

Game of Thrones was the most pirated show on TV in 2012

Game of Thrones holds the rather dubious honor of being the most pirated TV show of 2012.

HBO can't be too thrilled about that and neither are the people involved with the show, the actors, directors and so on, though they do recognize that it is at least an indication of how much people love the show.

Still, HBO plans to do something about all of this piracy as the new season is about to start at the end of the month.

Thankfully, that doesn't mean going after pirates any harder than it already does, something that never really works, but rather it's tackling the main reason why people choose to pirate the show, availability.

The show was most pirated in Australia, where it aired a week later than in the US, for example. So this time around, HBO will be airing new episodes in 176 territories very shortly after the premiere.

This should make a dent in piracy, but there are plenty of people who won't start paying an HBO subscription just for one show and, for them, the only option is piracy, until the Blu-ray comes out.
