Google is celebrating the 200th anniversary of the first publication of the Grimm brothers' Children's and Household Tales, or the Kinder- und Hausmärchen as was the original German title. It was a collection of 86 stories, many of which are now very well known.
The second volume of the collection followed two years later and the books went through several reissues. In each new edition, some stories were cut others were altered until they arrived at the versions we know today.
To say that their collection had a profound impact on western and even global culture is an understatement.
Rapunzel, Hansel and Gretel, Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White are just some of the more than 200 tales that the Brothers Grimm made famous the world over.
Google's doodle follows Little Red Riding Hood, or Little Red Cap the more direct translation from German, through her trek, her encounter with the wolf and, spoiler warning, the wolf eating her grandmother and the rest of the story.
