Hotels listed within Google+ Local have reportedly been hijacked to display links to third-party booking sites.
Instead of the links leading to their official sites, thousands of hotels are now displaying links leading to booking sites, Search Engine Land reports.
The Google+ Local listings are used by the company to provide results in other services, such as Google Maps or Google Search.
The changed links most often lead to RoomsToBook.info or RoomsToBook.Net, as well as to HotelsWhiz.com, which is certainly not ok, as rerouting visitors can be dangerous for users.
Google didn’t initially want to comment on the issue, but it looks like it worked to remove some links from search results. The company later confirmed that it was aware of the issue and was working to fix everything although it’s unclear if we’ll ever get a formal blog post on the matter.
