The more you stay on the site, the sadder you get, apparently
Did you know that Facebook makes you miserable? If you didn't, you must be one of the lucky ones. According to a new study, Facebook usage tends to make people less happy. It's not just that unhappy people use Facebook more, the site itself is causing the unhappiness, the study seems to suggest. The researchers looked at a sample of young adults and asked them at various intervals how they were feeling and whether they had used Facebook or other means of communication in the time since the last survey.
They found that those who had used Facebook the most or only Facebook felt worse over time than those who used other communication tools or simply hadn't logged into the social network.
You should be taking the results of this study and others like this with a grain of salt, as there are many caveats. Even if the science was solid, the correlation between Facebook usage and "happiness" is flimsy at best.
That said, if Facebook is making you unhappy, perhaps you feel that your friends are having it so much better than you, maybe it's best to dial down on Facebook usage or, alternative, find some less successful friends.
