WordPress 3.5 is finally here, after months in developmentWordPress 3.5 has arrived. After several months in development and several beta and RC builds, the final, stable release is here. It's about a week behind schedule, but that's to be expected for such a big project.
The big new feature in WordPress 3.5, codenamed "Elvin," is a new media manager. The tool has been reworked from the ground up and it should provide a much simpler way of uploading and embedding media files, music, photos, videos and so on.
The new media manager is already live on WordPress.com, there are more details about it here. Also new in WordPress 3.5 is the default theme, dubbed Twenty Twelve. Granted, coming so late in the year, it might as well have been called Twenty Thirteen.
WordPress set a goal of having one new default theme each year, starting with Twenty Ten, but the new releases haven't come as early as the team hoped.
The Dashboard has gotten some tweaks as well and some polish. It also supports Retina displays now, so it should look great on the few devices that sport ultra-high resolution displays.
