Amazon denies that it has any type of plans to start licensing TV channels to launch a broadband-delivered television service.
Despite reports coming from the Wall Street Journal, it looks like Amazon really isn’t looking to get involved in this area.
Amazon’s VP of Public Relations, Drew Herdener, denied the rumor via an email sent to Variety. “We continue to build selection for Prime Instant Video and create original shows at Amazon Studios, but we are not planning to license television channels or offer a pay-TV service,” he said.
According to the report coming from the unnamed sources of The Wall Street Journal, Amazon has approached at least three big media conglomerates, seeking rights to distribute their content online. A previous report from the same publication indicated that the company wanted to offer a set-top box similar to Apple TV or Roku.
